The marine iguana colony on Fernandina Island is the
largest in the Galapagos Islands. The visitor site at Punta Espinosa is the only
place on Fernandina that visitors are allowed. Punta Espinosa is an important
breeding area for the marine iguanas and very precaution is taken to ensure that
visitors do not disturb their nests during the breeding season. Naturalist
Guides in Galapagos play a vital role in protecting the islands' fragile
ecosystem!
