Galapagos Tortoise Only eleven of the original fifteen races have survived and of those only three are reproducing at a rate sufficient to replace themselves. The other eight races are threatened with extinction by decreased population size, predation on nests and young by pigs, dogs, cats and black rats, and competition for food with feral goats and donkeys. |
